Note from the professionals:  D.I. Boxes General
DI Boxes are found in use with most PA systems. They can convert very high signal levels (like speaker level sound) and very low-level sound (instrument pickups, etc) to a microphone level, which is the most common input type on a mixing desk. They will normally take the unbalance signal and turn it into a balanced signal. The balance signal is normally the one that uses a 3 pin XLR connection, and has less chance of interference over longer distances.
If you have a small setup and your mixing desk is within 3-4 metres of your instrument, etc, then it is possible you will not need a DI Box and you can connect directly to the mixer. However, if you have a particularly quiet source, or you have a longer distance to your mixer, then we recommend the use of a DI box.

This DI Box Is Passive, which means you don’t need a battery or phantom power. If your instrument is particularly quiet, then you may be better using an active DI box, as these generally help boost the signal cleaner than a passive DI box. However, in most cases passive DI box will do a good job.

Top Tip: A passive DI box is normally bi-directional and can often be used if you want to convert a balanced signal to a line level. This would generally require the right cables to make this happen. Ask us for more information.
